Fireplace Safety
Basic safety practices include always using a fireplace screen and storing combustible material far from the fireplace.
Under the Ontario Fire Code, homeowners
are responsible for ensuring their fireplaces are safe and in good
repair. Inspect your fireplace regularly, and have a Wood Energy
Technical Training (WETT) certified technician conduct an annual
inspection and cleaning. Professionals have the tools and expertise to
conduct thorough inspections. To book a WETT inspection please contact
Sarah Karabin at 705-484-5374 ext. 253.
New fireplace/woodstove installations
A building
permit is required for all new fireplace and woodstove installations.
An inspector from the Building department will need to inspect your
fireplace or woodstove. If you have any questions regarding the building
permit, please contact Charlotte Clarke at 705-484-5374 ext. 234.
