Notice of Sanitary Sewer Main Flushing

Monday, May 2 - Friday, May 6, 2022

Contractors will be in Bayshore Village May 2 - May 6 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to flush the sanitary sewer mains. This is a preventative maintenance operation to remove built up material in the collection system.

Occasionally during cleaning, air movement in the sewer can cause water to splash out through toilets, sinks and drains. This is often a result of inadequate venting within the plumbing system of the home. 

Take the following precautions to prevent water damage in your home:

• Close the lids on all toilet bowls when not in use
• Insert drain plugs in all sinks and bathtubs when not in use
• Remove all floor mats in bathrooms
• Place an old towel around the base of toilets
• Put a thick piece of plastic over your basement floor drains (a ziploc freezer bag works well). Place something heavy over the floor drain to keep the plastic in place.

Sometimes sewer cleaning can leave an odour in the home. If so, run some water down the sink and bathtub drains, and pour a pail of water into your basement floor drain.  After a short time, the odour should disappear.
