Ramara/January 28, 2022 - On Monday, Council approved to create two on-street paid and resident permit parking locations for visitors and residents accessing Lake Simcoe.
In the next 2-3 weeks, visitors and residents who want to access Lake Simcoe will be able to park in these two locations:
- On-street paid parking on the west side of Courtland Street from Lake Simcoe to a safe spot on the road north of Orkney Beach Road.
- On-street paid parking on Lake Avenue from Simcoe Road to a safe location on the road.
"Now that the cold weather is upon us, many of our residents and visitors will be enjoying outdoor activities including ice fishing, snowmobiling and even cross-country skiing," reports Mayor Clarke. "With the two additional parking areas along Lake Simcoe, residents with 2022 parking permits, residents without permits and visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the amenities in Ramara and enjoy a safe and contactless way to park."
At each on-street parking location, parking will cost $5 per hour between the hours of 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. There will be no overnight parking or unattached trailer parking at either of these two locations. Residents who have a 2022 Parking Pass will also be able to park in these locations as well.
The public can pay by either downloading the free HonkAPP or using the HonkTAP payment option. With the HonkTAP, there is no app to download or pay station to touch; paying for parking is easier and safer than ever. After scanning the QRcode, drivers tap on a pop-up notification to open up a pre-loaded payment screen with the rate options. Drivers type in their license plate and select how long they want to park. The HONK payment system integrates directly with Ramara's parking enforcement - passing paid parking sessions to enforcement officers in real-time.
For app lovers, the HonkAPPis another contactless payment option for drivers who wish to pay for parking and manage a session directly from their phone. As with the HonkTAP option, drivers can pay via Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and major credit cards. Drivers can also opt to receive text reminders when their parking is set to expire and can add more time to their parking session directly from their phone - no need to rush back to feed the meter!
Residents and visitors are reminded to not park in the above locations until signage is posted. It is anticipated that parking in these locations will be in place by mid-February. Learn more about the Township of Ramara's 2022 Parking Plan by visiting
