Zoning By-Law Update

The Township is completing a comprehensive review of Zoning By-law 2005.85, as amended. This review is an important step in ensuring that the Township's zoning regulations reflect current planning principles, community needs, and legislative requirements.

 

Project Timing and Overview

The Zoning By-law Review project is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2027 and will be completed in five key phases. While exact dates may be refined as the project progresses, the following provides an overview of the anticipated sequence of work and when residents can expect opportunities to participate.

The project has officially begun. During this phase, staff introduce the project to the community and begin early background work.

Status: Project Introduction Notice Completed

Upcoming activities include:

  • Development of the community engagement strategy

  • Preparation of the technical background review

Following project initiation, the Township and consultants will prepare detailed technical studies that will inform the new Zoning By-law.
This phase will include:

  • Preparation of the Technical Background Report

  • Preparation of the Draft Update Report

These documents will guide the drafting of the updated zoning regulations and mapping.

Once the technical work is complete, the first version of the updated Zoning By-law and zoning schedules will be drafted.
This phase includes major public engagement opportunities, such as:

  • Hosting community open houses

  • Release of the Draft Updated Zoning By-law

  • Statutory public meeting to gather formal public input

Residents and stakeholders will have multiple ways to review materials and share their feedback.

After engagement activities are complete, staff will summarize what was heard from the community.
This phase will include:

  • Preparation of a Summary Report outlining key themes, issues, and recommendations

This report will help shape revisions to the draft by-law before it is finalized.

The final stage includes the preparation of the completed Zoning By-law for Council’s consideration.
Activities will include:

  • Preparation of the Final Zoning By-law

  • Presentation of the document to Council for approval

Once adopted, the updated by-law will replace Zoning By-law 2005.85, as amended.

What is Zoning?

The Township of Ramara's Zoning By-law enforces the Township's Official Plan by outlining permitted land uses. The Zoning By-law identifies setbacks, height restrictions, and maximum lot coverages for building projects. The Zoning By-law also determines the minimum lot frontages when severing new lots.

Community Consultation
