Couchiching OPP Detachment Board
As a result of changes to the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 (CSPA), the Couchiching OPP Detachment Board was formed, encompassing the City of Orillia and the Townships of Oro-Medonte, Ramara, and Severn. This independent Civilian Oversight Board, with its provincial responsibilities as outlined in the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 (CSPA), is committed to ensuring adequate and effective policing in accordance with the needs of the area. The Board will foster accountability and transparency by acting as the intermediary to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and to the community, making evidence-based decisions and following best practices.
Responsibilities
- Participating in the selection of the Detachment Commander;
- Determining objectives and priorities for police services after consultation with the Detachment Commander;
- Advising the Detachment Commander with respect to policing provided by the Detachment;
- Monitoring the performance of the Detachment Commander;
- Reviewing regular reports from the Detachment Commander regarding policing provided by the Detachment; and
- Providing an annual report to the municipalities regarding the policing provided by the Detachment in their municipalities.

The Board encompasses of elected and community members from the City of Orillia and Townships of Oro-Medonte, Ramara, and Severn, and two provincial appointees.

Deputation Request Form
Deputations shall be scheduled at the beginning of each Couchiching OPP Detachment Board meeting and shall be limited to a maximum of 15 minutes. Only one deputation shall be scheduled at a Board meeting.
The requester/presenter is responsible for ensuring that they have received consent for any third-party information. The completed deputation request and presentation material will be published in their entirety in the public agenda available through the municipality's website. The Chair shall have the discretion to grant deputation requests, provided the subject matter falls within the Board's mandate.
The Secretary-Treasurer shall inform the members of deputation requests that have not been granted and the reason for the denial.
All presentation materials must be submitted to the Couchiching OPP Detachment Board's Office by noon on the Thursday two weeks before the requested meeting date.
