$17,600 OTF grant from the Ontario government was a homerun for recreation programs in Ramara

For Immediate Release - Ramara, Ont. / Jan. 30, 2026 – On Friday, MPP Jill Dunlop met with Township of Ramara officials and staff to learn more about the results from the $17,600 Seed grant that it received in 2024 from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The grant was used to support youth baseball and flag football programs in Ramara. The project expanded access to youth recreation by creating new opportunities for children and families to participate in organized sports, strengthen community connections, and stay active.

“I am pleased to recognize this important initiative made possible for the Township of Ramara through the Province’s Ontario Trillium Foundation, ensuring local youth can access safe, inclusive, and affordable sports programs within their own community,” said Jill Dunlop, MPP for Simcoe North.  “Investments in youth baseball and flag football help foster confidence, teamwork, and lifelong healthy habits. This funding strengthens Ramara by bringing families together and creating positive, supportive spaces for young people to grow and thrive. I look forward to seeing these programs continue to make a meaningful and lasting impact for youth and families across the township.”

The OTF grant was used over the last year to launch Ramara’s new youth baseball and flag football programs by providing essential equipment for both, as well as an infield groomer to improve the quality and safety of the community’s baseball diamond.

"The youth baseball and flag football programs are a significant addition to sports and recreation in the Ramara community,” said Deputy Mayor Keith Bell. “Thanks to the generous grant funding from the Province, we’re able to offer engaging, accessible activities that promote health, teamwork, and community spirit."

The youth baseball and flag football programs are being offered during the upcoming 2026 spring recreation season. The Township of Ramara will offer tee ball for six weeks in May and June and flag football for eight weeks this spring, giving youth fun and active opportunities to learn new skills and build teamwork. Registration for both programs opens Feb. 25, 2026, for residents and March 4, 2026, for non-residents. Register online at townshipoframara.perfectmind.com.
