Flood Update – Improving Conditions, Elevated Water Levels Persist - Update May 7, 2026

The Township of Ramara is providing an update regarding regional flooding conditions.

Current Flood Status

Water levels across Lake Simcoe and connected waterways are gradually receding as a result of sunny weather and minimal recent precipitation. Improvements are being observed across all of the waterways within the Township of Ramara.

Despite these improving conditions, flood-related alerts remain in effect as water levels are still elevated. The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA), the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), and Parks Canada will continue to monitor conditions and issue updates as required.

Current lake and river levels remain higher than seasonal average, and shoreline flooding continues to affect some low-lying and flood-prone areas, particularly during periods of wind and wave activity.

Road Conditions Update

  • Sheba Drive / Bluebird Street have reopened and are now passable.
  • Amilia Drive continues to experience water over the roadway:
    • In some sections, water extends across the full width of the road.
  • All other roads are passable, although some water may be in one lane.

Motorists travelling in flood-affected areas are reminded to proceed with caution, reduce speeds, and follow all posted signage.

Sandbag Stations

Sandbag stations will begin to be removed gradually over the next week, with removal expected to be completed by May 14, 2026.

Flood Safety Reminders

Residents and visitors are urged to continue exercising caution around all waterbodies:

  • Do not drive or walk through flooded areas
  • Stay well back from shorelines, rivers, and fast‑moving water
  • Avoid unstable banks and areas where water levels may change rapidly
  • Keep children and pets away from flooded areas
  • Watch for electrical hazards, gas leaks, and sewage concerns if flooding has occurred
  • Wear appropriate protective gear during cleanup

Residents in historically flood-prone areas should continue monitoring conditions closely and take precautions to protect vulnerable property.
