Notice of Wastewater Effluent Hauling - August 2026

Please be advised that commencing in early August 2026, Wessuc Inc. will begin transporting wastewater effluent from the Wastewater Facility 202 (Bayshore Village) to Wastewater Facility 201 (Lagoon City/Brechin) on behalf of the Township of Ramara (see map). While in effect, hauling will occur Monday to Friday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. 

While the new Tile Bed project is under construction, it was anticipated that favourable weather conditions and construction progress would allow the spray fields to maintain appropriate lagoon levels until such time as multiple cells in the tile bed are commissioned and available to receive effluent discharge.  

In 2025, lagoon levels were intentionally lowered in anticipation of construction in 2026 and 2027, as well as to manage winter operating conditions. However, the winter season brought significant snowfall, estimated at approximately 5 m, followed by an exceptionally wet spring. Localized flooding occurred throughout Ramara Township near Lake St. John, Lake Dalrymple, and Lake Simcoe. Precipitation has remained above average through the spring and summer, with more than 400 mm recorded between April 1 and July 30, 2026. 

The combination of above-average precipitation, higher-than-expected winter flows, and periods of high winds, which restrict operations under the facility's Certificate of Approval, has necessitated the initiation of effluent hauling. 

Staff, Wessuc, and the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA), as the Township’s Operating Authority, will continue to closely monitor lagoon levels and will limit hauling to the volume required to maintain regulatory compliance.
