Ramara Council adopts updated Official Plan

Official Plan Update

Plan now moves to the County of Simcoe for approval

Immediate Release

Ramara, Ont./ June 2, 2025 –The Township of Ramara has officially adopted its updated 2025 Official Plan, following Council ratification on June 2, 2025. The plan now moves to the County of Simcoe for final approval, in accordance with the requirements of the Planning Act.

Ramara’s Official Plan is a long-term planning document that guides land use, development, environmental protection, and resource management within the Township. The newly adopted plan replaces the Township’s 2003 Official Plan, bringing it into alignment with updated provincial legislation, County of Simcoe policies, and community needs.

“This updated plan reflects years of work and valuable input from our community, staff, and agency partners,” said Mayor Basil Clarke. “It provides a modern policy framework to support responsible growth, protect our rural and environmental character, and help us build complete, sustainable communities for the future.”

The plan was shaped by public and agency input and informed by evolving growth forecasts and policy requirements. It includes updated designations, mapping, and policy directions to guide the Township to the year 2051, in alignment with the County’s growth strategy.

The key themes of Ramara’s 2025 Official Plan include:

  • Vision and guiding principles

  • Complete communities and balanced growth

  • Housing

  • Community design and heritage

  • Sustainability and climate change

  • Agriculture and rural lands

New features of the plan include a greenlands designation, updated natural heritage mapping, differentiation between village and rural settlement areas, and refinements to the Atherley-Uptergrove Secondary Plan, Brechin, and Lagoon City settlement areas.

Next Steps

The adopted plan and supporting documentation will now be submitted to the County of Simcoe, which serves as the approval authority for the Township’s Official Plans and amendments. To learn more and read the plan, visit ramara.ca/OPR
