The Township of Ramara observes September 30 as a statutory holiday in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. 

The Township Administration Office and the Ramara Centre, including the Ramara Township Public Library, will be closed on September 30. Flags at Township facilities will be lowered to half-mast at the end of day September 29, 2026 and raised again on October 1, 2026.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was proclaimed by the Government of Canada in 2021. The day coincides with Orange Shirt Day and is meant to recognize those directly and indirectly affected by the residential school system, including survivors, their families, communities, and the children who never returned home. It is a time for reflection and learning as Canadians work together to support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action.

Get ready for another night of live music in Udney! The Township of Ramara’s Udney Community Centre Board is bringing Udney Music Fest back for a second year, with an evening of music, food and community fun.

Taking place Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, from 5 to 11 p.m. at the Udney Community Centre (2347 Concession Rd. 10), this year’s event will feature four bands and five performances as local musicians take the stage for “One Night in Udney.”

This year’s entertainment lineup includes featured performer Ty Wilson, a special appearance by the Tommy Banjo Band, Mike Church from Gravenhurst, and an encore performance by Bill Nadeau & the 21st Century Binary Backup Band.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children ages six to 17, and free for children five and under.

Mayor Clarke proclaimed September as Childhood Cancer Awareness month in Ramara. On September 14, 2026, the Township raised the flag to honour the young lives taken too soon, celebrate the courage of survivors, and support those still fighting. The Township would like to recognize the dedication of organizations such as Candlelighters Simcoe and Parents of Children with Cancer, whose tireless work provides care and comfort to families in our region.

The Township of Ramara will begin rehabilitation work on Bridge 18 on Island Crescent and Bridge 19 on East River Road in October. The work will help maintain the safe operation of both bridges and extend their service life.

The contractor is scheduled to mobilize to site on October 6, 2026, with the majority of the work expected to be completed by mid-November, weather and site conditions permitting.

Temporary daytime bridge closures will be required from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday during the dates noted below:

• Bridge 18 – Island Crescent: October 14 to 26
• Bridge 19 – East River Road: October 14 and October 23 to November 4

During these periods, temporary pedestrian access through the work zones will be provided when required; however, residents should plan for delays of up to 20 minutes while crews safely facilitate passage. Parking will also be available along East River Road and Ash Crescent for affected residents.

Emergency and medical service vehicles will have immediate access at all times. The Township has also coordinated with school transportation providers and waste and recycling collection contractors to help minimize service disruptions.

Residents in the area directly affected by the closures will receive hand-delivered notices in advance.

The Township is moving forward with repairs to the Dock Road Dock, with Kropf Industrial Inc. awarded the contract for the project. The work will address the condition of the existing dock and help ensure the facility can continue to safely serve the community.

The contractor is expected to mobilize in mid-October, with in-water work beginning shortly afterward. Final construction is anticipated to be completed in 2026.

The timing of some work will depend on the delivery of project components. Additional information will be shared as the construction schedule is confirmed.

The Township of Ramara has launched a Master Servicing Study for the Atherley-Uptergrove Secondary Plan Area and Rama Road Corridor to help plan for future growth and infrastructure needs over the next 20 years.

The study, being completed by Tatham Engineering through the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process, will review existing infrastructure, forecast future needs and evaluate potential servicing options for water, wastewater, stormwater and related municipal infrastructure.

The study is expected to continue through March 2028 and will include technical analysis as well as consultation with residents, agencies and Indigenous communities. 

Property owners within the study area will receive a notice by mail and there will be opportunities for public input as the study progresses, particularly as servicing options are developed and evaluated.

Great progress is being made on the Baseball Diamond Rehabilitation Project at the Ramara Centre!

Excavation is now complete, and crews are installing the new ball diamond material. The former back ball diamond materials have been removed from the site, and new player benches are also being installed.

Next up, crews will complete topsoil, seeding and fertilizing, followed by the remaining chain-link fencing work. Once the fencing is complete, the contractor will return for final cleanup and removal of the temporary fencing.

The project is supported through the Province of Ontario's Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF) – Stream 1 and is part of the Township's ongoing investment in safe, high-quality and sustainable recreation facilities.

We appreciate the community's patience as we get closer to completing these improvements at the Ramara Centre.

Construction will take place on a new accessible pavilion at the Ramara Centre, creating a shaded, barrier-free space for residents and visitors to gather, connect and enjoy the many recreation and community activities available at the property.

The pavilion is the latest improvement to the Ramara Centre property, joining the new playground and ongoing baseball diamond rehabilitation. The site is also home to the Ramara Public Library, sports, summer camps and other community programming.

Construction is anticipated to be complete by mid-October 2026.

The project is supported by $72,476 in funding from the Government of Canada through the Enabling Accessibility Fund.

Test Your Smoke Alarm Day takes place across Ontario on September 28. Ramara Fire & Rescue Services is encouraging everyone to take a few minutes that day to make sure the smoke alarms in their home are working and ready to protect their family.

Ontario’s Saved by the Beep campaign is a simple reminder that working smoke alarms save lives. When a fire occurs, you may have only minutes to get outside safely, and early warning from a working smoke alarm is critical.

On September 28:

• Press the test button on every smoke alarm in your home.
• Make sure alarms can be heard from sleeping areas.
• Check the manufacture date and replace alarms that have reached the end of their service life.
• Replace batteries when required by the manufacturer.
• Never remove batteries or disable a smoke alarm.

At a minimum, Ontario homes must have working smoke alarms on every storey and outside all sleeping areas. Additional smoke alarms may be required depending on the age and design of your home.

Do not forget about carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. Ontario homes with a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace or attached garage are required to have working CO alarms. As of January 1, 2026, CO alarms are required adjacent to each sleeping area and on every storey without a sleeping area.

Cooler evenings are on the way, which means furnaces, fireplaces and woodstoves will soon be back in regular use. Before turning up the heat, take some time to make sure your heating equipment is ready for the season.

Have your furnace and other fuel-burning appliances inspected and serviced by a qualified professional. Fireplaces, woodstoves, chimneys and flues should also be inspected and cleaned as necessary before regular use.

Check the area around furnaces, fireplaces and other heating equipment and remove anything that could burn. Never store combustible materials near heating appliances.

As you prepare your home for the cooler months, take the opportunity to test both your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
