Winter Storm Update – Dec. 29, 2025 – 9 a.m.

Township operations crews have been out since 3 a.m. this morning (Dec. 29) scraping and breaking up ice as warmer temperatures allow. Additional sand and salt have been applied across Township roads and sidewalks. More than 15 mm of precipitation fell across the Township yesterday.

At this time, there are no road closures and no reports of downed trees within Ramara. Road conditions remain highly variable, including bare pavement, icy sections, and areas of ponding.  These road conditions may worsen later today with the anticipated flash freeze.

A Snow Squall Warning and Wind Warning remain in effect for our area with blizzard conditions, near-zero visibility, and 25–45 cm of snowfall possible. An initial intense snow squall late this morning may bring a rapid volume of snow, a sharp temperature drop, and icy surfaces. Strong winds with gusts of 70–90 km/h are expected today, increasing the risk of tree damage, power outages, and service disruptions, especially in areas with existing ice buildup.

The combination of snow, blowing snow, strong winds, and rapidly changing temperatures will make travel extremely hazardous, with conditions potentially deteriorating quickly. Residents are strongly encouraged to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary, charge devices, ensure generators and vehicles are fuelled, have their 72-hour emergency kits on hand, secure loose outdoor items, and check on vulnerable neighbours if it is safe to do so.
