Septic Permits

Planning to install, repair, or upgrade a septic system? Discover essential information about septic permits and the approval process for on-site sewage systems within the Township of Ramara.

On-site sewage (septic) systems under 10,000 litres per day are regulated by the Ontario Building Code. Any work done to, or that could affect, the septic system requires a permit from the municipality.

A septic permit is required under any of the following circumstances:

  • A new house is being constructed
  • Proposed alteration that will affect the capacity of an existing system
  • Change of use that increases the flow of the building
  • Relocating a septic system
  • Installation, repair or addition of a sewage holding tank
  • The system is failing
  • Site grading or alterations in the vicinity of the septic system

Applying for a septic permit is essentially an application for a building permit to construct a sewage system. Please visit the Building Permits webpage for more information on how to apply for a building permit.
