A Message from Fire Chief Stong

Ramara Fire and Rescue Services is a volunteer department with two full-time members (Chief and Deputy Chief) and an administrative assistant. With three fire stations and a current roster of 89 firefighters, we proudly provide fire, medical, rescue and specialty services to the citizens and visitors that traverse the Township of Ramara. Through our commitment to excellence in prevention, education, training and emergency response, we provide protection to the lives and property of those we serve.

Prevention is paramount, when speaking to fire service response. If you are calling 9-1-1, the event has already occurred and we are placed in a reactive state. By investing in fire prevention and public education, we are front-loading our response in hopes of mitigating horrible outcomes. Proactive planning through home escape plans and fire drills in the home can help prevent loss of life and greatly prevent loss of property. By being a partner in public safety by checking your smoke alarms at home and ensuring your business or workplace comply with Fire and Building codes, you are doing your part and being a key component in everyone's safety.

In the event of an emergency, I take pride in the capabilities of our highly skilled force. Their commitment to training and employment of our specialized equipment allows them to respond to almost any situation they are presented. The strength of our service truly comes from the people that make up its parts. Our volunteers are your neighbours, friends and families. They are nurses, mechanics, business owners, pilots, welders, and engineers. They are mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters, and they are all professionals.

We have great working relations with all of our neighbours here in cottage country, bringing a more comprehensive level of protection to all of our collective municipalities through Mutual Aid and Automatic Aid agreements. This affords all of our citizens a greater level of protection and resources.

I have the privilege of leading this great team as we remain dedicated to the community and committed to the pursuit of its continued safety.

Tony Stong, Fire Chief
