Fence Bonus Policy

A fence bonus is a small amount of money that is paid to residents who construct fences adjacent to municipal road allowances. Township of Ramara Council implemented the Fence Bonus Policy to help keep livestock contained and off of the roadways. This helps ensure the safety of our residents and out-of-town visitors.

To be eligible for a fence bonus, fences must meet the following conditions:

  • The fence line is on the surveyed lot line and/or is approved by Township staff
  • The fence bottom is clear of all trees, brush, stones, stone piles, to a distance of 24 inches on either side of the property line
  • Fence posts meet the following requirements:
    • Spaced a maximum of 17 feet between posts
    • Cedar or pressure treated creosoted wood, with a top measurement of 5 inches minimum (wooden line posts). Anchor posts are of the same material with a top measurement of 8 inches.
    • Steel fence posts may be used in lieu of wooden posts in a maximum ratio of three steel line posts between each wooden line post.
    • No installation of wooden posts with butt end up will be permitted.

  • Wire: New standard nine strand woven fence or its equivalent (if approved by Township staff).

  • The fence must be properly constructed with good workmanship and materials as to meet the satisfaction of Township staff.
