Water Meters

Water meters are used for calculating water usage for many reasons such as water billing, consumption, leak detection, calculation of wastewater discharged back into the municipal system and overall usage accountability in both residential and commercial applications.

In 2020, Council passed the Water Use Bylaw 2020.56. This bylaw prohibits the removal of a water meter, except as authorized by the Township. Please note that a plumber can winterize your meter without actually removing your meter. Property owners are responsible for any loss or damage including freezing to the meter.

Checking for Water Leaks

If you think you might have a leak, turn off everything in the house that might be using water and look at your meter. If the low flow indicator is turning, that means water is still flowing through the meter and you likely have a leak. The most common source of leaks are the toilet flapper valve, a dripping tap, feed to washing machine or malfunctioning water softener.

Stay Informed About Water Consumption

The Township of Ramara's Water Usage Customer Portal allows water users to monitor their water consumption and set up email notifications when abnormal water usage is detected at their property.

Final Water Meter Reading

If you are selling your home, you will need to arrange for a final read of your water meter. Please ensure your lawyer contacts the Township of Ramara Finance Division to provide important information such as closing date, new owner's contact information, and to arrange for a final reading of your water meter.
