Opportunities available on Climate Action Committee, Lagoon City Parks and Waterways Commission
Ramara, Ont./ May 26, 2025 – The Township of Ramara is currently recruiting volunteers to serve on two important community bodies: the newly established Climate Action Committee and the Lagoon City Parks and Waterways Commission.
Applications are open until June 13, 2025, at 4:30 p.m.
“We’re proud to offer opportunities for residents to get involved in shaping the future of our community,” said Mayor Basil Clarke. “Whether you’re passionate about protecting the environment or want to help maintain the unique character of Lagoon City, these committees are a great way to contribute.”
Climate Action Committee: Three public member positions available
The new Climate Action Committee will serve as an advisory body to Council on local climate change and environmental issues. The committee will provide input on projects and policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote environmental stewardship, while also helping to develop a Climate Action Work Plan for the Township.
“We’re looking for residents who are passionate about protecting the environment and want to make a difference locally," said Coun. Dana Tuju, Council representative on the Climate Action Committee. “A significant portion of the Township is comprised of lakes, rivers, and natural areas; therefore, we must protect our wetlands and waterways, given the critical role they play in our ecosystem. This is a great opportunity for community members to share their ideas and be part of building a more sustainable future for Ramara.”
The committee will meet at least three times per year, with more meetings at the call of the chair. Members are appointed for the current Council term, ending in 2026. Council has also authorized representatives from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, and Chippewas of Rama First Nation to sit on the committee.
Lagoon City Parks and Waterways Commission: One public member position available
The Lagoon City Parks and Waterways Commission is responsible for managing, maintaining, and regulating the waterways, private parklands, two footbridges, and connecting paths within Lagoon City. One commission position is currently available for a levy-paying resident of Lagoon City. The term ends June 30, 2028, and the Commission meets monthly on the second Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
