Emergency Preparedness Week Information

Immediate Release

Ramara/May 5, 2024—Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) is an annual event in Canada that runs from May 5 to 11. The purpose of this week is to encourage Canadians to take steps to be better prepared to protect themselves and their families during emergencies.

Ramara Fire and Rescue Services will be sharing emergency preparedness resources and reminders throughout the week. You can find these resources on their X (formerly Twitter) account (@RamaraFire) or on Facebook (@RamaraFireRescue). By taking a few simple steps, the public can become better prepared to face a range of emergencies. It is important to:

  • Know the risks - Although the consequences of disasters can be similar, knowing the risks specific to our community and our region can help you better prepare;
  • Make a plan – It will help you and your family know what to do and
  • Get an emergency kit. We will all need basic supplies during an emergency. We may need to get by without power or tap water. Be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours.

Everyone has a role to play in an emergency, and being prepared is the best way to protect yourself and your family during an emergency event. Learn how to prepare yourself and your family in an emergency by visiting www.ramara.ca/emergencymanagement.

Alertable

Since 2020, the Township of Ramara has used Alertable as a Community Information System to help notify residents and visitors of emergency alerts, road closures and day-to-day community notices. The public can stay informed and receive the alerts by doing one or a combination of the following:
