Ramara, ON, March 30, 2025 – Effective on March 30, at 7 a.m., the Township of Ramara is declaring a significant weather event as per Regulation 239/02 of the Municipal Act due to current and forecasted freezing rain conditions resulting in downed trees, power lines, and outages across the township. During a Significant Weather Event, all roadways and sidewalks are considered to be in a "state of repair" and may be unsafe to use.
Ramara Township may declare a significant weather event when the weather forecast, or actual weather condition includes one or more of the following conditions:
- Significant snow accumulation during a 24-hour period,
- Ice formation that occurs with no warning from the weather forecast,
- High winds leading to large snow drifts,
- Cold temperature when de-icing operations will not be effective.
Ramara Township wishes to note that the declaration of a significant weather event is not notice of a reduced level of service or a road closure. The declaration is to notify the public that due to the current or forecasted conditions, caution is to be observed when travelling on Ramara Township roads and that it may take longer than usual to bring the condition of the roads back to a state of repair.
Public safety is the Municipality’s top priority.
We want to remind the community that the municipality is continuing to respond to the impacts of this ice storm. The Ramara Fire and Rescue Services are managing a high volume of calls and ask the public to call 9-1-1 only in an emergency. The weight of the ice is also causing significant damage, with fallen trees along roads making some roads impassable.
At this time, we ask residents to stay in their homes and stay off the roads. This will ensure that our staff, emergency services, and Hydro One can respond effectively.
When the municipality has declared the event has ended, the standard timelines for winter control maintenance activities will begin.
The Township of Ramara will provide updates to residents through the following communication channels:
