When is the municipal election?

Eligible voters can vote in the 2022 Ramara Municipal Election from October 13th at 9:00 a.m. until October 24th at 8:00 p.m. In person, paper ballot voting will only be available on October 15th (10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.) 16th (10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.) and 19th (4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) at the Ramara Centre.

How do I register to vote?

You must be on the Municipal Voters’ List in order to vote during Voting Days (October 13 at 9:00 a.m. – October 24 at 8:00 p.m.). If you were on the previous Federal or Provincial Voters’ lists, it does not mean you are on the Municipal Voters’ List. 

Here is how you can register to vote:

  • Online tool 

  • In person at the front desk at the Township of Ramara’s Administration Office

  • In person at any Voting Station during in Person Voting Days (October 15, 16 or 19).

Please allow 24 hours for your request to be processed. On Final Voting Day, online requests will be processed within 1-2 business hours.

Which School Board do I Support?

In the 2022 Ramara Municipal Election, eligible voters will be casting their ballot for one of the following school boards:

Additional Information:

  • A non-resident voter, who is an owner or tenant of residential property in the municipality, is entitled to vote for the school board office in that municipality.  

  • A non-resident voter, who is an owner or tenant of commercial property in the municipality, is not entitled to vote for any school board offices in that municipality. 

When you get your Voter Information Package (VIP) check to make sure you are supporting the correct school board.  

If your school support is incorrect, here is how you can update your information on the Municipal Voters' List:

  • Online tool 

  • In person at the front desk at the Township of Ramara’s Administration Office

  • In person at any Voting Station during in Person Voting Days (October 15, 16 or 19)

Please allow 24 hours for your request to be processed. On Final Voting Day, online requests will be processed within 1-2 business hours.

How and Where do I Vote?

Vote online anywhere, anytime from a computer or mobile device between October 13 at 9:00 a.m.  - October 24 at 8:00 p.m.

  • Vote In Person on October 15 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00pm, October 16 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. or October 19 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Ramara Centre

  • On a public computer at any Township of Ramara Public Library Branches (during operating hours).

Note: No paper ballots are available on Final Voting Day (October 24)

What do I need to bring to vote in person?

 If you ARE on the Municipal Voters’ List, you must bring:

  • Voter Instruction Letter; and
  • Photo ID (i.e. valid driver’s licence); or

  • Complete a sworn, written declaration at a Voter Assistance Centre

If you ARE NOT on the Municipal Voters’ List, you must bring:

  • Photo ID (i.e. valid driver’s licence); and

  • Proof of Canadian citizenship (i.e. passport, citizenship card, or birth certificate); and

  • Proof of Ramara residency (i.e. tax bill, credit card statement or a utility bill); or

  • Proof of non-residency eligibility

Note: Without this documentation, you will be unable to get a ballot. 

Can I Vote by Proxy?

The 2022 election will not permit voting by proxy, rather, electors may vote by phone or online if they cannot attend the in person advanced votes. 

What are the offices to be elected?

 Mayor (You may vote for one candidate)

  • Deputy Mayor

  • Ward Councillors (there are 5 wards in the Township, therefore 5 Ward Councillors)

  • Member - English Language Public District Board #17

  • Member - English Language Separate District Board #44

  • Member - French Language Public District Board #58

  • Member - French Language Separate District Board #64

*You may vote for 1 candidate for the school board you support.

How do I find out who is running for office?

A list of candidates will be posted here as candidates file their nomination paperwork. The official list will be posted after the candidates are certified on August 22, 2022. 

How do I remove a voter from my household?

You can remove a voter from your household on the Municipal Voters’ List in person at the Township of Ramara’s Administration Building.

I did not receive a Voter Information Package (VIP) - can I still vote?

 If you did not receive a Voter Information Package (VIP), you are not on the Municipal Voters’ List. You must be on the list in order to vote.

Here is how you can register to vote

  • Online tool 

  • In person at the front desk at the Township of Ramara’s Administration Building until October 21, 2022.

  • In person at the Voting Station located at the Ramara Centre on October 15th, 16th, or 19th.

Please allow 24 hours for your request to be processed. On Final Voting Day, online requests will be processed within 1-2 business hours.

I lost my Voter Information Package (VIP)/Online Voting Pin – what should I do?

Contact the Voter Assistance Helpline at election@ramara.ca or 705-484-5274 X602 to have your existing Online Voting PIN deactivated. You will be issued a new Voter Information Package (VIP) with a new Online Voting PIN. Please allow 24 hours for your request to be processed.

Can I vote more than once if I own multiple properties in Ramara?

No. You may only vote once in a municipal election, and you must vote in the ward where you live.

Can I vote in more than one municipality if I own multiple properties in different municipalities?

Yes. You may vote in any municipality where you are the owner, tenant, or spouse of an owner or tenant of land in that municipality – but only once per municipality. 

When can candidates start campaigning and advertising?

The nomination period for the 2022 Ramara Municipal Election begins on May 2. Once a candidate files their nomination form, they can begin campaigning and advertising.

When can candidates and Third Party Advertisers begin to put up lawn signs?

How do I report a concern about an election sign?

Concerns about election signs should be directed to the Bylaw Department through the online portal.

When do candidates and Third Party Advertisers need to remove their lawn signs?

Election signs must be removed within three (3) days following a municipal election in accordance with the Township's Sign Bylaw. If not removed within this time frame, the Clerk may direct that the signs be removed and the deposit retained by the municipality. 

Are candidates or people representing candidates allowed to canvas in condos or apartment buildings?

Candidates wishing to canvas in condos or apartment buildings should approach the board for approval prior to canvasing. 

When does the 2022-2026 Council term begin?

The new term of Council will begin November 15, 2022. 

When is the inaugural Council meeting?

The Inaugural Council meeting will be held on November 21, 2022.

How do I Vote Online?

Is the Online Voting System safe and secure?

The Township of Ramara has entered into a contract with Intelivote Systems Inc. for eVoting services. Intelivote has developed application software, procedures and expertise to provide an electronic voting service incorporating voting through secure electronic connections. Intelivote will be providing Online Voting services for many local municipalities. 

What Devices can I use to Vote Online?

You can vote online from a computer or a mobile device on the Android or iOS (IPhone/iPad) platform that is connected to the internet. 

How long does it take to vote online?

Voting online usually takes about five minutes to complete. 

What do I do if my online voting session times out?

If your online session times out before you have submitted your ballot, your vote has not been cast and you will need to restart the voting process from the beginning. You can log in to the system any time before voting closes at 8:00 p.m. on October 24. No votes will be submitted until you complete the entire ballot and click, “Submit Ballot”. 

If I log in to the voting system, but I do not want to submit my ballot at that time, can I exit the system and access it later?

Yes, as long as you have not clicked “Submit Ballot”. If you exit your online voting session before you submit your ballot, you can log in again before 8:00pm on October 24 and restart the voting process from the beginning. 

What do I do if I am not sure if I submitted my online ballot?

If you are unsure if you submitted your online ballot, try to log in to the online voting system again. If your ballot has been submitted, the system will not allow you to log in and will advise that you have already voted in the election. If your ballot has not been submitted, you will be prompted to proceed with casting your ballot. 

What do I do if I log in to the online voting system to vote and it says I have already voted?

Contact the Voter Assistance Helpline immediately at election@ramara.ca or 705-484-5374 X602. 

Can anyone tell how I voted if they know my Online Voting PIN?

No. The system does not track how an Online Voting PIN has coted, only that the PIN has been used to submit a ballot. 

How does the online voting system protect the integrity/privacy of my vote?

Voted are cryptographically protected (encrypted and digitally signed) at all times. No one can manipulate them, including Election Staff. 

Once my online ballot has been submitted, can it be changed?

No. Once a ballot has been submitted it cannot be changed.
