Candidate Registration

Candidate Registration will begin on May 2, 2022. Eligible Candidates will be able to file their nomination packages with the Township’s Clerks Department on this date from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Who can run for Municipal Office? 
In order to run for office in Ramara, you must be*
  • A Canadian Citizen; and
  • At least 18 years of age; and
  • An owner or tenant of land in the Township of Ramara, or the spouse of such owner or tenant; and
  • Not legally prohibited from voting; and
  • Not disqualified by any legislation from holding office

*As of the date you file your nomination. 

 Who can't run for Municipal Office?

The following people are not eligible to be elected as a Member of Council:

  • Any person not eligible to vote in the municipality;
  • An employee of the municipality unless they take an unpaid leave of absence before being nominated, and resigns, if elected to the office;
  • A judge of any court;
  • A member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, a Senator or a member of the House of Commons; or
  • An inmate of a penal or correctional institution under sentence of imprisonment.
  • Any person who by reason of any violations of the election campaign financial requirements or violations for not filling the financial statements pursuant to the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.
 Who can run for School Board? 
In order to run for school board office, you must be*:
  • 18 years of age or older; and
  • A Canadian citizen; and
  • A resident within the area of jurisdiction of the board; and
  • Eligible to be an elector of that school board for which the person is a candidate; and
  • Not disqualified by any legislation from holding office.

Who can't run for School Board? 
A candidate for school board office cannot be a clerk, deputy clerk, treasurer or deputy treasurer of a municipality within the jurisdiction of a board. The following persons are disqualified from being elected to school board office:
  • Any person not eligible to vote in the municipality; or
  • An employee of any school board unless he or she takes an unpaid leave of absence before being nominated, and resigns, if elected to the office; or
  • A judge of any court; or
  • A member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, a Senator or a member of the House of Commons; or
  • An inmate of a penal or correctional institution under sentence of imprisonment; or
  • A person disqualified for violations of financial requirements or violations of requirements for filing financial information pursuant to the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.
 How to become a Candidate
Eligible Candidates may file Nomination Papers between May 2, 2022 - August 19, 2022. 
 Spending and Fundraising
Candidates cannot spend or raise funds for their election campaign until their nomination has been filed with the Clerk.
 Withdraw a Nomination
Nominations may be withdrawn, in writing, up until 2:00pm on August 19, 2022.
