Ramara Public Library Brechin Branch Remains Closed

Ramara/May 18, 2023 – The Township of Ramara, in partnership with the Ramara Public Library, is announcing the closure of the Ramara Public Library Brechin Branch located in the basement at 3242 Ramara Road 47.

On November 25, 2022, the Township of Ramara was informed that mould was identified at the Brechin branch location, and the branch was immediately closed for remediation. During the temporary closure, several clean-up and remediation attempts were made; however, reports still confirmed the presence of mould.

"Since November, the Township has consistently tried to remediate mould from the lower level of the building to have staff, residents, and visitors safely return to the library. "The clean-up costs and future repairs have significantly increased with each remediation attempt. As we have not been successful in ensuring the bottom floor is free of mould, Council and I have made the tough decision to close the Brechin Branch location. We understand the vital link this facility plays in the well-being of our community. In consultation with the Ramara Township Public Library, we are actively searching for alternative locations for the library facility within Brechin to provide the community with the books, programs and services the community has grown to enjoy and expect."

The Good Doctors, located on the main floor of the Mara Medical Centre, will remain open as testing identified that the mould is centralized only on the lower floor.

"While it is certainly disappointing that we have had to make this decision, the health and safety of our staff and patrons is of the utmost concern. We look forward to working together and exploring alternative locations with the municipality that in the long run may better service the Brechin community."

The public can return library materials to the Ramara Centre at 5482 Highway 12. Residents who cannot drop off items at this location can use the drop-off box in the foyer at the Township of Ramara Administration Building at 2297 Highway 12.
