Update to County Waste Collections affected by weather

Collection crews continue to struggle along.  Tuesday’s collection routes in Ramara, Tiny, Tay, Severn, Midland, and Penetanguishene are all being impacted by today’s winter weather.  Crews will be working beyond normal completion times in an effort to get as much material off the streets as possible.  It is difficult to know with certainty where we will be by the end of the day, but at this point, we believe the following areas will be most heavily impacted with misses:

  • Northern Tiny Township (north of Lafontaine Road)
  • Eastern Penetanguishene (east of Fuller Avenue)
  • Northern Midland (area between Vinden St. and Burnell Sideroad – aka Sunnyside)
  • Southern Tay (area east of 93, north of Vinden, south of 12 and west of Gervais)

There will be a variety of other weather related misses throughout Tuesday’s collection areas but the vast majority of homes will have been serviced.  For those whose collections were missed, the normal County process is for double collection limits on the next week.

County Waste Collections affected by weather

Winter weather is impacting waste collections this morning (Tuesday collection routes in Wasaga Beach, Tiny, Tay, Severn, Midland, and Penetanguishene).

Full crews are out from Waste Connections and are proceeding cautiously given the conditions.  Most crews have been redeployed into the urban areas where plows have made collections safer.  As the plows catch up in the more rural areas, later in the day, the trucks will again be redeployed in an effort to complete all collections.  At this point it is safe to assume completions of collections will be delayed beyond the normal finish times of 5:00 pm.  Full efforts will be made to complete collections but safety concerns are paramount.

We recommend that if resident’s waste materials are not collected by the normal time that they be left curbside until 8:00 pm to allow for late collections.  As is the normal process, any collection misses will be delayed for one week and double the normal collection limits will apply.  We will update again later in the day when we have a better idea what the impact will be.

Notifications will be made to residents through the collections reminder tool and public notifications through the County website, Facebook and twitter feeds and press releases should that become necessary.  The most direct way for residents to be informed is through the County’s collections reminder tool found at: http://www.simcoe.ca/SolidWasteManagement/Pages/schedules.aspx Residents can enter their address to find their waste collection day and sign up for reminders and notifications through their email or phone.
